What is this this thing?

So I have a thing. I'm usually good at figuring out what a thing is. My guess is some household device, but I'm stumped on this one.

Nine pics of the thing and it's parts might make the following description make more sense.

It's five lengths of wood a little over three feet long, attached at the top with old (hand crafted, antique?) brackets. The center length folds out freely and can turn around (open up) until it hit the hinge on the backside when it's closed. The outer four lengths open up with a folding hinge midway down, and then the center length only goes part-way out, standing it up. The center length is shorter than the other four and has four half-circle grooves on both sides part way down from the end. When the long central latch is locked opened, the four outer 'legs' make it stand, but the center length could easily break the top hinge if pushed down too hard. It's not very sturdy.

Best answer: Paper hanger stand. For when you needed paste and a brush.
