Cool "summer school" opportunities in New England.

I'm planning summer vacations now for 2024, and looking for really great programs for a rising junior in New England. There's a lot of different colleges that have programs but I am not sure what ones are well regarded. He excels in Physics, likes science, writing and the nature. He's VERY shy and while I'd love for him to try an overnight deal- I don't know if I can sell that to him. If it's far away and for commuters- I'll book an inn or something. This may be his last summer without a job so I want him to get to do something really enriching that might help him in his path to deciding majors and build a bit of confidence.

My son did some classes at MIT summer school, and enjoyed them very much. They have a very useful resource page that includes other locations in New England.

Learn how to fly gliders at Sugarbush Soaring. One of our flying club members has taken his child there and raves about it.

Young Proust took classes at Harvard Summer School as a rising high school junior and rising senior. The first summer he took applied stats in R and the second summer he took an international relations class. Both were rigorous and rewarding college-level classes, with a mixture of high school and college students, and mid-career students. Harvard Summer School offers a residential option, but my kid didn’t do that.

He also did internships at The Gabrielli Lab one summer and the Zon Lab the other summer. Both were very well structured programs, not just “show up and we’ll try to find something for you to do”. The Zon Lab pays participants. He enjoyed them both and learned a bunch (including the fact that he doesn’t want to go into those fields). If you want to pursue the Gab Lab and can’t find current info, MeMail me and I’ll get you a contact.
