How can my group curate shared digital photo albums?

I want to create shared digital photo albums, but need suggestions for the most convenient platforms to let everyone contribute conveniently.

I'm probably the most passionate photographer of the group and use Apple's Photos.app to organize my photos. If everyone I was collaborating with was using Photos.app as well, an iCloud shared album would be the ideal solution. However, some of the folks are on PCs and use Google Photos. Are there any good solutions that integrate with Photos.app (and ideally Google Photos and/or others as well) so that everybody can contribute to shared albums without having to manage a separate library to keep everything in sync with our own personal photos?

Google Photos runs on iOS devices, so everyone could use it.

The Google Photos app has an unfortunate limitation that can make it difficult to use on iOS devices: it's not possible to browse your iOS photo albums when choosing what photos to upload. (Here is a thread referring to the issue; the workaround described by Katherine seems to no longer work.)

This means that if you're like me, and do a "first pass" on your photos, selecting the best by marking them as "favorites" or adding to a new album, there's no easy way to upload only those favorites to a Google Photos album. Frustrating.

If you're more the "fuck it, just upload everything" type, this is less of an issue.

Response by poster: Maybe I wasn’t clear in my question: I do not want to use Google Photos. If there were a Photos.app plugin to sync a particular album with someone else’s Google Photos, ok. But I want to keep my photos in Apple Photos as the canonical version.

I use both Google Photos and the Apple photos app — I consider the Apple ones canonical for my phone photos (which are most of them). I have access to all my photos.
