What was this city logo redesign project that I remember?

Several years ago, I saw a student project that designed a new logo/brand identity for a particular city. The design played on that city's distinctive shape, and also incorporated randomness, so that the same concept could be rendered in several slightly different ways. I was trying to describe it to someone recently, and I'd like to find it again.

What I remember is that the outline of the logo referenced the shape of the city, which I remember as an irregular polygon of some kind. Within the polygon, bands of color were drawn from one side to another side. There were maybe two or three colors that overlapped each other. The gimmick was that the color bands could be drawn to and from different sides of the polygon to produce slightly different logos that shared the same visual identity. Like you would use one variation for city hall and a different variation for the parks department or something? I don't remember the details now.

I saw this somewhere online, but I can't remember where. Probably some graphic design blog. The designer also had a web page that featured this project in their gallery. I probably first saw it at least five years ago, and it may not have been new at the time.

Melbourne? https://www.zekagraphic.com/most-expensive-logo-designs-ever/ Polygon is a stylized "M" rather than the city outline.

Response by poster: It wasn't Melbourne. Thanks for the suggestion, though. I tried to skim that company's portfolio, in case it led to something similar, but no luck.

I'm pretty sure that the one I'm thinking of was just a student project. It was never accepted or even officially proposed as a replacement.

You are kind of reminding me of the recent controversial redesign for the logo for Arlington, Virginia. They put out a call for suggestions, so some members of the public did submit during the process. There were some 250 initial submissions. They eventually chose design A shown here. I did find one previous article that shows some of the rejected ones (keep scrolling down in the article.)
