📢📢📢 Week 2 Fundraiser Update – With your help the site will SURVIVE.

📢📢📢 Now, we ask you to help REVIVE Metafilter 📢📢📢 As of today’s fundraising update, we’re only $500 a month away from our Survive target!* The community is coming together to keep the lights on at our shared online home. But we need to go further to safeguard Metafilter’s future. It’s time to 🌱Revive Metafilter.🌱

There are more details in the today’s fundraising update post, but if you just want the highlights:

New recurring contributions since the start of the fundraiser: $6,546.67
New one-time contributions since the start of the fundraiser: $38,394.15

That means we’re only $500 away from our original Survive target - just enough to keep the site on life support, but without funding to help it grow. One-time contributions have created a foundation that will give the site stability.

Now we just need a final push. We know we can edge over that Survive target. In the last two weeks of the fundraiser, let’s get to Revive, so that we can start rebuilding the site to become a sustainable operation that doesn’t need to issue these urgent appeals for help ever again.

Please continue giving. Please continue publicizing Metafilter’s need to raise funds. Please continue participating in the fundraising activities. And, above all, please keep posting and commenting on Metafilter. You’re the reason the site exists.

Thanks for the update! It’s super encouraging to know our donations are having an impact. I’ve now set up a recurring payment, as well as my one-off donation. I just can’t comprehend the internet without Metafilter.

Just a comment - I donated yesterday and I found it really hard to find the 'donate' link (I might have been in the AskMe FAQ and not the MeFi FAQ when I was looking; I'm not saying I'm not dumb.) I see the banner is a lot more direct today and is one hop away from the donations page, but maybe we could have it in the footer links as well for the quieter times?

Response by poster: For me, it is in the footer links as "Join 7,527 readers in helping fund MetaFilter" though I am not certain that is true in all versions of the site layout. It might be worth considering putting it in the header links (though that's not a fast change) -- make it more visible.

I've restarted a monthly contribution, which I don't recall stopping but I guess I did...

I'm so glad ot hear the site will continue on. I'd miss it a great deal if it vanished.

OK...I started a monthly contribution. I get so much value from this site and feel so blessed there's a place of (mostly) sanity on the internet. There are posts who's subject I often don't have much direct interest in but I love reading the comments anyway. Where else does that exist?

I love this site, and now realize how irresponsible it was of me to assume things were cared for and my help was not needed. Made a one time donation, and started a recurring. I open the site at least 2x a day as a consumer… my new stake in the site may compel me to participate more. Thank you all!

It's possible I have a unique talent for ignoring things. (I would add that the button with the dark background is much more obvious than the counter, but both are definitely on the mobile site now I go looking.)

I have duly slipped MeFi some more cash, because who can resist croutons?

I'm tapped! All 20 slots on the FF movie post/$5 match thing are done.

However!

It's still possible to get:
-weirdly specific film recommendations for $5
-6 movie posts on the theme of your choice for $20!

I’d like to up my monthly recurring, but it’s not straightened for me to figure out which payment processor I’m using. How do I do that?

Response by poster: Someone else might have some better ideas, but the easiest way is to log into PayPal and Stripe and check your recurring payments. The payments page has a link to instructions for PayPal. Not sure how it works with Stripe because I don't have a Stripe account.

u2604ab: If you have a Stripe payment, it will show up here. If you don't have anything there, check your PayPal account.

There's a small update to the funding page on the way to make that more clear, and I hope to make some larger improvements to that page as well.
