"I already had a recurring payment to metafilter, so when I saw the casual banner note about fundraising, I initially ignored it. As others have suggested, making the situation more obvious/dire might attract more attention. I've since sent a one-time payment and upped my monthly payment. I'm not saying this to brag, but to stress that it nearly didn't happen due to me initially not realizing the severity of the problem." Did you know? Anyway I figured that's fixable, so now you know!

I have been meaning to up my Paypal donation--was putting it off because of the slight inconvenience of having to cancel my previous donation and redo with a new donation link. In penance, I've added an additional $5/month over the extra $15/month I was going to add making my new donation $30/month. That fits with my philosophy that giving should hurt just a little if you are giving to something you really believe in.

Thanks for posting this -- I've been buried in work, getting ready for an international trip, and buying a house, so I didn't realize how important this fundraiser is.

Just made a one-time donation via Venmo. Hoping to set up a recurring donation once life settles down and I move past all the one-time costs associated with purchasing a home.

I've lurked (and more recently posted) on this site for about 15 years, and I can't imagine life without it!

The chaos of Twitter not only pushed me to Mastodon, but also encouraged me to log into Metafilter again. I had no idea about the fundraiser because I hadn't logged in in so long but immediately donated when I saw! This site is Good Internet in my opinion and needs to stick around :)

I do not have PayPal or Stripe. When I emailed, all I go for reply was Paypal or Stripe.
Can I e-transfer, or use Mastercard?

Mastercard (and other credit cards) can be accepted through Stripe - no need for a Stripe account! It's very fast and simple.

Just 1) click the button on the funding page in the Stripe section corresponding to the amount you'd like to give, under either recurring or one-time 2) fill in your Mastercard details 3) click to pay and you are done!

If you set up a recurring donation and need to change it later you can go to the Manage Stripe Payments page.
