Home Taskmaster tasks for a party

I am helping to organise a Taskmaster-themed birthday party. What tasks should we set?

I am helping to organise a birthday party for a close friend. This friend is a huge fan of the British TV show Taskmaster, so we're going to do our own home version, with comedic, collaborative, creative tasks that can be performed (and scathingly judged) during the party.

What tasks will work well with the following criteria?
  • About two dozen people, a mixture of adults and children (of various ages)
  • Working in teams of four or five
  • In winter, so preferably indoors
  • Using items that we can purchase cheaply or would be lying around the typical suburban home

Build a bridge out of these dollar store items that can support (comedic object)!

One idea is maybe to dig up the #hometasking tasks from lockdown. Another is to maybe have a look at The Button, another Alex Horne kinda taskmaster-ish gameshow thing.

Oh btw taskmaster.info has a breakdown of all existing tasks (you have to go to the page for an individual episode to see them) which includes foreign versions if you're looking for inspiration of something someone who's only watched the uk version might not have seen. Random example here.

The trick with Taskmaster is that the contestants are comedians or funny actors. Since your participants aren’t necessarily adept at making jokes out of thin air, I suggest making the tasks inherently funny in some way.

Some ideas:

Funny objects - Build the tallest structure that can support this pineapple/cabbage/other large produce out of all of these miniature things found at the grocery store (baby carrots, baby bananas, those tiny cans of soda, little cheese wheels, hard boiled quail eggs, cocktail umbrellas, mini bottles of wine and liquor, bite sized wrapped candies, etc)

Funny movements - Choreograph a two minute interpretative dance in honor of the birthday celebrant, embodying their best and worst qualities.

Funny sounds - One team member makes a sound. The next team member draws the monster that would make that sound. The third team member makes the sound that they think that monster would make. Whoever’s team makes the most similar monster noise beginning to end wins the task.

To Mizu's point it's worth pointing out that the contestants on The Button are regular folks & not comedians.

This might be obvious, but have you already looked for candidates in Taskmaster: 200 Extraordinary Tasks for Ordinary People?

My daughter wanted a taskmaster themed party and it went great. Ours was outdoors, so almost none of the tasks would translate well - one that might is the backwards video one (TREE WIZARD!).

In your case that would be a prepare at home task; everyone (individually, or in groups if they have family / friend groups) brings a video on their phone that gets played backwards and the judge votes. It takes a bit of stress off you for having to organize all the tasks in person, but you still get the fun of watching / judging as a group.

Painting from a distance from the season with Lolly Adefope and Noel Fielding? Paint the best picture of the Taskmaster. Only the paint and brush may touch the mat, easel and canvas.

The canvas was in the middle of a 10ft or so tarp so they had to throw paint or whatever to come with a way to reach the canvas.

We had a Taskmaster-themed birthday party for my 12yo. The games that went down best were Paint A Self Portrait With Condiments (use the cheapest supermarket brands you can find), and one where teams had to play the longest rally with tennis racquets and eggs. None of them thought to boil the eggs or wrap them in anything, so it was extremely messy and hilarious. Honourable mention to making the tallest free-standing thing using paper drinking straws and tape, in five minutes.

There’s also a Taskmaster board game btw!
