Three days in Chelsea NYC

cruel summer's question prompts mine. I too will be in NYC, staying in Chelsea. Suggestions about good Chelsea restaurants, bars with great cocktails, offbeat things to do? I've been to the Whitney, have walked the Highline.

Best answer: I just spent a week in NYC and really enjoyed the many pier-related parks and gardens that make up Hudson River Park, easily accessible from Chelsea. See: https://hudsonriverpark.org/the-park/piers-and-places/

Have a cardamom bun at Fabrique. (Note: not very filling. But delicious.)

Mace in the West Village has herb/spice based cocktails that are a bit offbeat. I prefer Jungle Bird and their happy hour specials, but if you want to prioritize novelty or quieter outdoor seating, go to Mace.

The cardamon bun at Fabrique that madcaptenor mentioned might be the single most delicious thing in Chelsea.

Ootoya is a lovely Japanese restaurant that is also an extremely pleasant place to eat alone if you’re looking for a bit of quiet.

Best answer: Have you already been to Sleep No More? Even if you have, the bar on the roof is a beautiful space (the actual cocktails are mostly just fine but the vibes are exquisite).

Tia Pol was my favorite restaurant in the area when I worked there years ago. El Quijote is also a beloved slightly kitchy local institution right under the Chelsea Hotel which is itself always worth a pilgrimage.

You may know this already but there are also about one million art galleries between 18th and 26th Street and 10th and 11th avenue, you can just wander up and down the blocks and go in anywhere that speaks to you. Tanya Bonakdar Gallery, Gagosian, and Jack Shainman Gallery were my favorites, and the New York Times and New Yorker usually have a few more suggestions in their listings section if you need more guidance.

Response by poster: Thanks for all the great tips. I didn't have time to try all but I did go to the bar on the roof of Sleep No More which is as great as babelfish says, and I hung out at the waterside park near the Hudson River piers for a sunny serene morning.
