Anyone have a favorite hotel in Manhattan? Myself and a few mates are all meeting up in NYC for a getaway weekend and are looking for a cool place to stay, somewhere in the $150 - $300 / night range. We are all in our late 20's / early 30's, like to shop, party, eat, and chat up classy single women. Any places that might fit that bill?

If you can get a special rate at The Library Hotel, it's supposed to be quite nice, interesting, and pretty conveniently located.

the Gramercy Park Hotel is pretty legendary, plus it's in a good location. Alternately there is 60 Thompson or the Soho Grand.

The Hudson caters to hipsters, although the rooms are quite small.

When my family and I were in NYC in May, we stayed at The Wyndham Hotel in Manhattan (not associated with the Wyndham chain of hotels...the link takes you to a set of reviews of the place, since I can't seem to find a website for the hotel right now).

It's a nice old hotel with big suites, very polite doormen (very helpful in finding good restaurants and navigating through the city), elevator operators (yes, with the sliding doors and up/down lever!) and it's walking distance from Central Park, CBS studios, Rockefeller Plaza and other attractions.

I'd recommend it for anyone going into the heart of the city for a weekend.

I found out: there is no website for the Wyndham.
Here is a site with the contact information for the Wyndham.

It's the high end of your range - but I love the Royalton. All of the ian shrager properties are pretty hipster (Royalton, Hudson, Morgans, Paramount). The paramount being the cheapest - and the oldest. There are a bajillion Ws in NYC. My fav is the W Union Square - central for all the places I like to hang. Soho Grand and TriBeCa Grand are both fantastic - but decidedly not cheap.
At the lower end of your range I like The Gershwin. Its pretty bare bones but has a cool vibe. Lots of Euro tourists and big Warhol prints in the rooms.

My favorite hotel in the city is the Royalton even though its in midtown.

Otherwise I'd stay in Soho at the Soho Grand or the Mercer.

I'm late to this thread but I recently discovered Le Marquis. I got a great rate on hotels.com. The location is problematic: very very central to all transport (it's right near the Empire State Building) but at night it's in a bit of a dead zone for fun. Then again, there are cabs and subways. The rooms are tiny but very stylishly appointed (can't beat Frette sheets and those rain shower showerheads with mint-rosemary shampoo) and great for the price. I've come to love boutique hotels.
