Recommend a sad movie, etc.?

My spouse and I returned a cat to the shelter today. I am in the mood for a sad movie. I am open to other sad media (as long as it doesn't take more than about two hours). Do you have any suggestions?

Hunt for the Wilderpeople is very sad in parts but also quite funny.

The Saddest Animated Double Feature is Grave of the Fireflies with When the Wind Blows.

The saddest old black&white film from the Depression is Make Way For Tomorrow, about which Roger Ebert said "It would make a stone cry."

If I NEED to let some stuff out, it's Steel Magnolias.

I only saw it this past holiday season, but Last Christmas may well get added to that particular hall of fame too.

I saw Ponette almost 30 years ago and it was so sad that I cried on and off for days. And I still want to cry when I think about it.

Atonement just crushed me flat, and I’d even read the book first. It’s just at 2 hours and 3 minutes.

And omg, Ponette! I have to see that again. I remember leaving the theater feeling just impossibly sad. Seconding that.

I’m sorry about the kitty and I hope you’re okay.

Big Fish is sad/touching. Now that Albert Finney is gone I find it even more melancholic. I always have a good carthartic cry when I watch it though it's ultimately uplifting. It's 2h and 5min.

If you really wanna run the sadness gauntlet then there's always Marley and Me.

Hugs for your family and sorry about kitty. :(

I've never cried as hard as when I watched Hachi. It's also pet related, which I guess could be a plus or minus.

The saddest movie I have ever watched is the documentary Dear Zachary. I cried so much during most of it--paused for an hour to talk with a friend--then cried even more through the end.
