Wanted: Socks my toe nails can't destroy

I have thick, gnarly, talon-like nails on both my big toes which rapidly wear holes in my socks. I know I should trim the nails more often, but let's face it, that's not going to happen. What's the toughest and most talon-resistant brand of socks I can buy to combat this problem?

Darn tough socks.

You can also buy toe covers from Amazon.

The answer to every sock question is Darn Tough. I think I'm going on at least ten years now without ever putting a hole in one of them.

My father had this, turned out he had a fungal infection causing his nails to grow talon like and treating them took a while but helped solve the problem it can also be a sign of health problems. But as that wasn't your question at his most talon like the socks he found lasted the longest were anything wool that was designed for hiking, he also had good luck with Holeproof Explorer brand socks but they don't seem to be available in the US.

Yes, yes, yes Darn Tough! I've had them for years and no problems and I have a toenail that grows pretty much straight up. Also, they're guaranteed for life, so if they do get a hole, you can get a new pair, no questions asked.

100% agree that it's worth it to see a podiatrist to make sure you don't have an infection or something else screwing up your toenails. But yes, the answer in the mean time is Darn Tough.

I often end up with holes through the top of my socks and even shoes from my big toe.
For the past few years, I've worn the 'Merino' socks from Costco, and while my shoes are still in peril, I haven't worn through very many socks in that time.
(I've noticed that it is probably because I tend to lift that toe excessively. If I curl my toes and then try to think about having a relaxed foot, I end up with less shoe and sock damage.)
