What is a really comfy chair, for like reading and watching movies in? Preferably a big cradling chair where I can tuck my legs to the side. My folks have one but it's tacky and smelly.

There's the trusty papasan chair, but it's not exactly something you want to decorate a room around.

If money is no object, I've always hankered for a classic Eames chair. They of course have a weird 1960s bachelor look about them but I watched a movie at a friend's house while sitting in one and couldn't believe how warm and comfy it is. When you pay $3k for a chair, the leather is really really soft and the stuffing is extra cushy.

Your parents chair needs some Febreeze and to sit outside in in the garage with the door open for a week or so.

If it still stinks after this time, it's in a great place for it to 'accidentally' catch fire.

You need a Lovesac.

I have an Ikea POANG and footstool.... its not that comfy.

Cannot second Ikea poang. Ours broke way to quickly (bolts started coming out after a year, completely snapped 6 months later even after putting bolts back in).

Not very comfortable either, especially if you are tall or have a long torso.

Me too. Ours are going in the trash when we move.

Search Google for "big leather club chair."

Here's an example of what I would buy:

Bassett makes good recliners that don't look like recliners. They're nice, well-made, and they'll last forever.

(Probably all other major furniture manufacturers do too, but I have a Bassett one I like.)

I've been parking my butt in a La-Z-Boy I got on sale five or six years ago. Super comfortable, and you can get the base models pretty reasonably.

Bean.

You may have difficulty fitting one in with your decor, but I always keep a butterfly chair somewhere in the house just for reading and movie watching.

Scratch's First Theory of Furniture: The uglier it is, the more comfortable it is -- to wit, La-Z-Boy (although lately they seem to have hired a designer or something).

I second kimdog's recommendation of the Papasan. Yes, it's big and...um...uniquely styled. But, damn, it's comfortable! Big enough to swallow a person whole. It's been a staple of Pier-1 for as long as I can remember.

I suggest going to a furniture store and trying out the chairs until you find one you like that you can afford. My local place must have 50 different chairs designs on display.

Pricier than IKEA though.

I inherited an Eames chair and ottoman identical to the one Matt linked, and I love it. Even my vegetarian fiance loves snuggling into all that soft leather.

I don't have a specific recommendation for a chair, but want to recommend a concept - 'chair and a half'. No, really, there's such a thing. They're halfway between a regular armchair and a loveseat, usually overstuffed and comfy, and big enough for the leg curling you desire, but usually not so huge that they will take up all the space in your room.

Try the cuddle lounge chair from Dania Furniture. Two (very friendly) people can sit and watch a movie. Otherwise excellent for curling up.

This has been asked before because I remember giving this answer before: check out the Ekornes Stressless lounge chairs. They're not big and fluffy: they just completely disappear from your thoughts when you're sitting on them. Not cheap, but extremely well-made.

third vote for the eames lounge. best 3 grand you'll ever spend. i bought one for my boyfriend for christmas last year. great for reading, sleping, tv, whatever.

if you want a truly snuggly experience, blow a wad on the saarinen womb chair. a friend has one, and it's like being enveloped. love it.

also: buy from circa50, not dwr. small business owner, same design classics, no shipping charges. dwr's shipping charges are nuts.

Jacquilynne nailed it. The answer is a chair and a half. We have one and it is the best. It is incredibly comfortable, and my wife and two girls can all snuggle up in it at reading time.
