Contractor Recommendations for a Condo Project in Portland Or.

My husband-elect owns a studio condo in Downtown Portland that can accommodate a 150-175 square foot lofted floor/mezzanine type space. We're looking into building one but have never done anything like this before and don't really know where to start on compiling a list of reputable contractors to contact for estimates. Any suggestions? Thoughts? Advice?

At this stage we just need a rough ballpark of what the build costs might be to decide if we can do it. We definitely want a contractor experienced working in condos and dealing with fussy HOA rules.

In general - do you have any advise on what the process looks like, what to expect, what to avoid, etc?

Thank You!

Contact a commercial mezzanine dealer. They build them all the time and have installers and engineers.

Response by poster: Ah yes. On pre-fab and commercial mezzanines: We're lookin into that as a Plan B if we can't afford to build an integrated loft.

This should be comparatively simple for any halfway competent GC; if anyone has had work done in your building you could contact them for recommendations? Alternatively, some HOA boards keep lists of GCs that have done "suitable" work in their building before.
