What kind of bug is this?

What’s this little bug from our washing machine?
Here is the bug. My wife found it in this flattened state in our washing machine. Our kid’s daycare found a bedbug recently so we are on high alert but the lack of a “waist” makes me hopeful this is not a bedbug. What is it?

Best answer: Maybe a young cockroach? Various photos here.

Interesting, maybe. We have noticed a handful of cockroaches in the last few weeks.
I should have said we’re in Philadelphia.

It's a li'l baby roach nymph. I don't know what kind specifically; they all look pretty similar in the nymph stages, and (good job but) they are hard to photograph.
I had a hard time with roaches (as did most people in old houses) in TX, and I recommend a gel/syringe roach bait product like this. "Roach Hotels" are pretty useless in my experience. Though they are convenient.
You can squirt the gel it into cracks and also on to little pieces of paper (eg junk mail) and leave them for a day or two in likely areas. If they get eaten, replace in that location in each area, until they don't.

Another vote for baby roach. I saw a lot of these growing up, unfortunately.
