Dear iPhone Please Give Me Less Rap

I have an iPhone and Apple Music. They replaced “For You” in the app with “Browse” and I can’t reset the profile. My job requires me to listen to a lot of rap, which I don’t do on the app. But the app found out and keeps suggesting lots of rap albums. I don’t really listen to rap much except for work. How can I tell it not to suggest so much rap?

This may or may not be an option for you, financially, but I've given serious thought to using both Apple Music and Spotify to avoid a similar problem - I listen to a lot of ambient techno as background for work, which massively skews my recommendations any other time.

Apparently the "For You" choices now appear under the "Listen Now" tab, which found at the bottom of the screen. It refers to "stations" instead of "play lists" for additional consternation. Like before, scroll both down and sideways to see all of the recommendations.

Best answer: I don't know how effective it will be, but if you long press on any item in Browse, you'll get a menu with a "Suggest Less Like This" option at the bottom.

Yeah, I'm with carmicha - I think you're getting Apple's generalized recommendations in the Browse tab (I liked at mine, and it is indeed a lot of rap—rap is very popular!), but you'll find your old individualized recommendations in the "Listen Now" tab, which replaced the old "For you" tab.

Spotify has a Private Mode for this: anything you listen to when it's enabled is not added to your history and is not used to generate recommendations. Apple Music appears to have a similar setting ("Use Listening History") that you could toggle off while listening to music for work, and then back on when you're at home.

Best answer: “Browse” is done by Editorial, which is real humans choosing music, and (I believe, I’m a bit removed from the AM service these days) everybody in that same store front is going to see the same stuff. And “Rap” is king these days.

“Listen Now” is done by the Recommendations team, and that is specific to you. Click the Love or Suggest Less Like This buttons to influence future recommendations.
