Bill of Rights font?

What currently available font must closely matches the handwriting in The Bill of Rights?

Interesting what AskMeFi questions get me curious enough to go out and do scads of research to find the answer! :-)

Anytime I hear a font question, I always jump over to DaFont.com and see what they have to offer. I looked in the "Script" section, typed in a sample from the Bill of Rights into the "Custom Preview" box (namely, "seven hundred eighty"), and compared the results to this scan of the original Bill of Rights.

Here's my best guesses for you to try:

This one might also be of interest. It's apparently a scan of Jefferson's handwriting, who didn't actually pen the Bill of Rights, but might be useful:

(I'll go ahead and admit right now that I didn't bother to look up who actually wrote out the Bill of Rights, but the font mentioned didn't look anything like the handwriting in the scan of the BoR.)

Have you checked out Identifont? It's pretty handy, according to my fontwhore friend without a MeFi account.

I had to do this a couple years ago when I was designing a masthead graphic for a blog called We the Blog (no longer active but still online). I wanted the title of the blog to look either like the Constitution or the Bill of Rights.

I can't remember which font I used but I looked to match the font itself as much as possible and then skewed it to the left a bit in Photoshop.
