How do I turn off Facebook Memories?

I don't need to remind myself of what I did 15 years ago, I tried going to facebook.com/memories and turning off the memories by setting notifications to none. This has not helped at all, I still get memories a couple times a week. Not critical, but am I missing anything?

Pretty straightforward, nothing embarrassing and I don't want to delete old posts necessarily I just don't need to be reminded about who I dated, etc. every week. It is more cringey than anything else. The official Facebook documentation here does not work.

One option if the global off button for memory notification isn't working would be to just kill your memories by date. You can enter a range of dates you don't want to see memories for, and that seems to stick for me. So enter from the day you joined Facebook to today. A year from now, if memories start popping back up, you can adjust.

On desktop, when you're on the Memories page, in the top right corner, there's a preferences button that allows you add those date ranges you don't want to see.

Obviously, a "just don't show me these" option would be better, if someone knows how to do that, this is just a work around I'm suggesting in case no one has a better option.

  1. On the navigation bar to the left, locate the "Explore" section, expand, and click "Memories"
  2. Click the "Preferences" button in the upper right
  3. Click "Edit" next to Dates
  4. Set the Start and End dates as far out and back as you can. Memories in this date range will be excluded. Right now the max end date is 2021-12-31 so you will need to keep adjusting it out periodically.
As far as I know there is no way to turn the feature off completely. Alas.

Response by poster: Weird, that's very not intuitive unless by "notifications" Facebook means not hiding them from your timeline but hiding them from the bell notification thing. Poorly worded documentation and not intuitive UX.

The start/end date seemed to do it! I'm going to give it about a week before closing this out and will check on this thread in case someone has a better solution then keep updating a sliding date window.
