Recommend me a Tablet 2020 Edition

I'm looking for reccomendations for better tablets than my Kindle Fire HD which are <$250.

Currently, I own a 2019 Kindle Fire HD 8" 16GB but I want a better screen and more storage. Also, I can't install my apps on the SD card since there's no option.

I would say the last positive exp w/tablets would be Nexus 7 (2013) but I haven't looked at any upcoming tablets for several years.

General purpose: Playing my 3x games, watching YT, and reading ebooks. I'm thinking of a refurbed Samsung Tab A 32GB (wifi) for $99 but any andriod tablet will be fine. I want to avoid 10" tablets since I want it to remain portable.

I'm not interested in writing or drawing on it.

Budget: <$250

I wanted a tablet about 9 months ago and felt the same. To get ahead of choice fatigue, I just waited until an Android tablet showed up in the Costco circular. Within about 40 days of my first desire for a tablet a Samsung something went up for $100 under regular retail, and I bought it more or less without even thinking about it. Tablet is great, I have no regrets.

(I did the exact same thing buying a mattress. Mattress is great. All hail Costco, lord and savior and uncomplicator of all purchasing.)

Just bought a Samsung Galaxy A 10.6" tablet for $85 used. 16gb but takes an SD vard. Installed Kindle app, great reading device.

I did the same process and ended up with the Kindle 10. It's much nicer than the 8. More power much nicer screen, more storage. Might be an option to consider if the Kindle is already doing all the things and you just want an upgraded experience.

Android tablets seem to be stuck in terrible hardware purgatory on the low end. At the moment, Amazon and Samsung appear to be the only companies that are interested in putting anything decent in this market segment (for the US at least). I'd probably go with the Samsung Galaxy Tab A with that budget myself.
