My Heart Needs to Feel some Sax

Not looking for jazz or solos but more of something where the sax is the voice or the song. Tenor. Suggestions?

Lots of saxophone (primarily Baritone) featured in Morphine's music. Listen to Cure for Pain, the entire album, if you haven't heard it before. Not quite what you were asking for as the sax isn't really the voice (there is a singer) but it's such a strong component to the music and is not simply used as a solo fill halfway through the song.

You might enjoy Andy Mackay's (former sax player for Roxy Music) solo album In Search of Eddie Riff. It's mostly songs with sax replacing the vocal part.

In Search of Eddie Riff (youtube playlist)

(And if you're also interested in non-jazz music with sax accompaniment, Mackay's sax playing on the first four Roxy albums and on their later Avalon disc is always wonderful).

My friend has a project you might enjoy called dustlights.

Are you thinking more I Just Wanna Make Love To You or Fine and Mellow, or more Blues A Plenty or A Love Supreme? Or more modern/poppy than all of those?

Oops, I missed the "or" in your description. Scratch all of my suggestions except maybe the first one.

Moondog [Sax Pax for Sax] - Dog Trot. Not exclusively tenor, but the whole album is good.

Moon Hooch.

The band is two sax players and a drummer. No words - all horn, all the time.

Plenty of tenor, but also soprano, baritone and bass.

Repeat as necessary.

Your heart needs Throne of Gold by Steel Pulse -- it's reggae, with sax, and also one of the most beautiful love songs ever made.

Acker Bilk, Stranger on the Shore. This is from the 60s, but still in my head, and I hope it always will be.

David Newman's "Hard Times" (YT) is so wonderfully sax-melodic and generally upbeat that despite being jazz, I'm going to mention it, because I think one can like this this tune without liking jazz! Otherwise, I wouldn't remember it from a 25-year-old compilation CD.

You could try my friends the Blue Cranes. Definitely jazz based, but more of an experimental indie pop vibe?
