Yet another 'help me find that book from my childhood!' question.

I'm looking for a (probably out-of-print) book about a set of triplets I read and loved as a child. Snowflakes inside.

This is such an obscure book that I have my doubts even the awesome powers of AskMeFi will be able to locate it, but here goes:

- It was a thick, hardbound book with - I think - the title in embossed letters on the cover.
- It was a set of three stories, all for young girls. The story I remember most was about a set of triplets, who basically looked the same absent their hair and eye colour, and their adventures camping with their Girl Guide troop in an old abandoned mansion during some kind of emergency.
- The three stories in the book had different characters, but all the stories were roughly the same genre, set either during WW2 or immediately after, and the characters were all Plucky English Girls with courage and fortitude, a stiff upper lip, and absolutely no need for boys.
-It was published in the late 70s or 80s, definitely no later than that, because I remember reading it as a child in India in the early 90s.
-There was no massive angst, nobody died, and all problems were resolved by the end - the book was very much like the Swiss Family Robinson in tone and scale of angst.
- Another story in the collection may have featured a pilot? I may be misremembering this, of course, as it's been a good twenty years.

I would LOVE to find this book again - TIA for any help, everyone!

Was it possibly Flicka, Ricka and Dicka? Three little Scandinavian girls?

Could it be one of the Chalet School books?

There is a book in the Chalet School series called The Chalet School Triplets and they are trapped in a blizzard, "among other happenings."

(Admittedly my eye was caught by "triplets" as I have some myself.)

Response by poster: Thanks for the responses, everyone! It wasn't either of those books - the girls were either English or American, and not part of the Chalet School series.

The girls are caught with their entire Girl Scout troop, if memory serves.

Do you remember if they were Girl Scouts, or Girl Guides? That could help narrow it down.

Here is a list of Girls' Series Books from 1840 - 1991 compiled by the University of Minnesota. There is one series about Triplets, but it has a boy in it. There is another series that google thought was a possible match about the Blythe girls, but they are older and live in NYCity. You might have fun looking through to see if any of the titles ring a bell.

and was it a very old story (1920s-1940s) or more contemporary to your reading of it?

Unlikely, but was it one of the Betsy-Tacy and Tib stories? They weren't triplets but described in terms of their different hair colors, and got into gentle adventures.

Response by poster: Nope, wasn't Betsy-Tacy - this was a stand-alone book.

And upon reflection, the story did read older, and the setting may have been around WWI rather than WW2.

Thanks again, everyone!
