What's the best American-style buffet in NYC or accessible via public transit from NYC? (We'd prefer not to go to PA or CT but I'll consider it.) Think Golden Corral, Hometown Buffet, Sizzler, or similar; we are specifically not looking for a Chinese or Indian buffet. Non-chain options are great. Cheaper is better.

You might have better luck looking in Atlantic City for that kind of buffet. The NYC ones tend to be the opposite of cheap.

That said, I happened to go to the all you can eat brunch buffet at Brasserie 8 1/2 on Sunday on a whim, and it was pretty good. Ostensibly French, but they had roasting stations with Lamb, Beef, and Turkey. French toast, lots of salad options, tasty pastries/deserts, endless shrimp cocktail, paella, pasta, potatoes, mac&cheese, etc. And they have $15 unlimited mimosas.

The Buffet at the Borgata in Atlantic City. Shady Maple or Miller's Smorgasbord in Dutch Country PA.

Apparently the casinos in CT have buffets. You can take a bus there. I'm partial to Bird in Hand in Lancaster County PA myself. Or hit all three!

I don't know what you call cheap, but Bond45 is super good value. Especially in that it includes smoked salmon
