What's this theme song?

I'm trying to identify a TV show with haunting intro theme music that included some whistling. If I remember right, the music sounded vaguely Celtic. The TV show is contemporary or contemporaryish (after 2010), and available on either Netflix Canada or Amazon Prime.

Response by poster: (by whistling I mean actual whistling, as opposed to tin whistling)

Do you remember anything else about the show? Rural vs urban, young cast vs old cast, etc?

Response by poster: Mogur: It was possibly a western, possibly a historical drama, or possibly swords & sandals stuff.

Castle?

Response by poster: Not Outlander, not Castle. I think Outlander is closer in mood though.

The theme to Season 1 of Patriot, on Amazon Prime, uses a song that is sort of haunting, vaguely Celtic, and while it doesn't have whistling it does have some Oooh oooh ooooohs at the end. Train Song by Vashti Bunyan.

(this is an amazing show that everyone should watch)

Super long shot, but possibly The X Files?

The only theme songs I can think of with whistling are The X Files and Eastenders, and the last one is fake whistling from a Casio.

Another two, but not haunting at all, are Some Mothers Do Have Em, which is 70s and obscure and my favorite, It’s The Garry Shandling Show.

Not a historical drama, doesn't have whistling, but does have humming and some instrumental parts that might be rememberable as whistling -- the theme to Detectorists is a possible longshot.

Eureka?

Response by poster: Really enjoying this parade of awesome tunes, but it's not Eureka, Detectorists, Garry Shandling, Some Mothers, Eastenders, or X Files.

“Vaguely Celtic” made me think of Haven. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjb4scJINuo

Slight long shot, but it could be Caliban's Dream from the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics -- the whistling bit starts about 2m55s in.

Was it the theme to John Adams?

Response by poster: (not Haven, Caliban's Dream, or John Adams)

Do you have the tune stuck in your head? Could you record yourself humming or whistling it and share a snippet?

Bonus guess (based on “haunting”, but not much else going for it) - Homicide: Life on the Streets

OK, look, not a TV show, but has whistling, a fiddle, qualifies as haunting, and comes from a western-themed piece of media..."Born Unto Trouble," from Red Dead Redemption.

No whistling, but I have a gut feeling it might be Deadwood

Response by poster: Asterism: I had it stuck in my head for about an hour after I first heard it. I thought it would stay, but it didn't, and now here we are ...

(it's not Homicide, Born unto trouble, or Deadwood [I miss Deadwood])

The theme from Over the Garden Wall is haunting, has whistling, and is available on Netflix.

Response by poster: (It's not Over the Garden Wall.)
