How do I remove index formatting from Open Office/Libre Office?

I've used Libre Office/Open Office to create an index. Index words were located within a manuscript, and were highlighted as they were put in the index.

Now that the index is almost done, I want to remove the shading on each word. Do I have to go backwards through the index creator and delete every word, or is there a way to remove the highlighting from all of the words throughout the manuscript at once?

Or, does it matter? If I save the manuscript as it is, and use the file to generate the final pages for the book, will the formatting show?

Answering this kind of question is exactly what Print Preview is for.

If you do Edit, Select All, you can then use Format, Character and the Highlighting tab to select "No Fill" to remove highlighting from the entire document.

Best answer: The highlighting is only there to show you it's a field. If you remove it, you'll possibly remove your index entries. The highlighting doesn't show in final output.
