Samsung Tab 3: Can't enter text

On my Android tablet, I can't enter text in some comment or reply boxes with Chrome. Details inside.

On my tablet, if I try to enter text in a comment or reply box, like this one on Metafilter, the text never appears. It seems like the entry box never accepts focus. As best I can tell, it's not a matter of the text being white on white and invisible. This is true on forums and bulletin boards, but not on all blogs. I don't have the same problems on apps like FB. I have not found any similar complaints on the web, though of course there might be some out there.

I've done the usual sorts of things: rebooting, forcing Chrome to stop, etc.

My interpretation is that there is a particular type of entry box facility that is the problem, one that is used by many, but not all web sites.

Stock android keyboard? If not, switch back to that long enough to test. Could be a kbd problem.

Response by poster: Good suggestion, but no success. I tried changing from the Samsung kb to SwiftKey and GBoard without luck. I'm thinking I may have to bite the bullet and delete/reinstall Chrome.

Response by poster: Problem was resolved when Chrome was eventually updated.
