Seeking Specific Furniture

A few years ago, Living Spaces sold a line of walnut-and-steel bedroom furniture called Larson (2). I loved the aesthetic, but I never had the money. Now I have the budget, but the furniture's out of production! Are there similar alternatives available, or is that style just out-of-style? What keywords will find me what I'm looking for?

Aesthetically, I appreciated the minimalist style and combination of steel and warm walnut. "Industrial" seems to be one potential keyword, but most of what that finds me is a bit more metal and a bit less wood. Living Spaces has some similar products today, but nothing that quite checks the boxes for me. While I have the money, a whole bedroom set ($2500 or so, the way Living Spaces had it priced) would be a big expense for me and I'd rather just muddle through with what I have until I can get exactly what I want.

Best answer: These are more expensive but the style most reminds me of Room & Board and DWR.

The Larson dresser looks like a pretty close dupe of Room & Board's Alden dressers (bark stain and stainless steel) or ditto the Kenwood dresser. Each has only one handle per drawer rather than two, tho.

The bed is close (but not exact) to R&B's Copenhagen bed in walnut, much less of a raw wood look. DWR's min bed is close but less similar to the Larson.

May I suggest craigslist as an option? Particularly since you seem to be in a large metropolitan area.

West Elm does a similar bed but in a darker iron instead of steel. Or Crate and Barrel has one that has the shininess of steel, but I'm not sure if it's still in your price range.

You could also consider buying a frame and then a separate headboard.

Response by poster: I'll try not to threadsit, but, thanks arnicae and Mouse Army! The Room and Board Copenhagen collection you pointed out is very close to what I'm looking for (and is a set, so, has the matching bedside tables and dressers). The West Elm set is pretty solid too, though I'll admit a preference for the walnut/polished stainless color contrast. If anyone knows of more affordable alternatives, I'd be happy to see them, since many of these push me back out of my short-term budget.

The small furniture shop near me customizes stuff, which means you can bring in a picture and they’ll make it for you. We did this for a hard to find credenza, and we got the size customized for our wall. It wasn’t that expensive either. Maybe try finding a place like that?

Best answer: The cheapest way and best final result way to do this is buy a polished steel frame on Cl or new, and pair it with the exact headboard you want.

You can buy or commission that very simple headboard. That headboard is dead easy to make. You would need a sander, boards cut to exact measurements or close, wood glue, the correct size wood screws and nails, sandpaper with different grits, and stain.

As long as your original cuts on the boards are near exact so sanding can even them out, you won't need a giant table saw to even out the board lengths once the piece was constructed, but before sanding and staining. That said, this must be easy to find and buy.
