Low-Fiber/Low-Residue Meals?

I have been put on a low-fiber/low-residue diet and am struggling to come up with meals. Please hope me?

In preparation for an upcoming colonoscopy, my doc has put me on this low-fiber/low-residue diet for 4 days. I've been given a handout with general guidelines of what I can and cannot eat/drink, but it's go general that it's a little difficult to come up with meals. For instance, I can have plain pasta. I can also have tomatoes that have been skinned, seeded and well-cooked. Does that mean I can possibly make a simple non-chunky tomato sauce (using canned sauce) for the pasta? I can have jelly (of which, my local store sells only grape and apple) What about seedless fruit spreads? Would those be ok?

I'd appreciate any ideas from those of you who may have gone through the same diet.

Best answer: My recollection from a few months ago is that it's not that the instructions are vague, so much as yes, it's really that boring. There was a contact number in my instructions and the nurses were very nice e the few times I called, but it was basically that plain and boring. If you can have the seedless, skinless, tomatoes and pasta, combining them should be no problem. If you want to add anything not specifically on the list I'd avoid it If you can't get in touch with the surgery center or his office over the weekend.

This is the worst humblebrag ever, but my doc bragged to everyone about how clean my colon was. He said it made the task at hand very easy, and I really just ate dumb, plain food. The solid food days flew by and the last couple of days were more annoying.

Good luck! The worst part of the procedure was waking up, asking if Trump was still president, and being told yes..

Best answer: I lived on a low residue diet for years. Four days are going to fly by.

Thinking of "meals," if you go by a typical protein+starch+veg type template, just replace the starch with a low fiber one (e.g. white rice instead of brown), and your veg with something that has been cooked to death and had the skins and seeds removed.

Honestly, for four days of your life I would just skip the fruits and veggies. You won't do any harm to your health in four days. Most foods that we think of as comforting or junky are low residue: macaroni and cheese, cheeseburgers, mashed potatoes with gravy, french fries, scrambled eggs, chicken noodle soup, peanut butter crackers, ice cream, white bread, cottage cheese. Yogurt with apple sauce is a nice breakfast.

Best answer: Yep, good suggestions above: think things that are kind of mashable without sharp bits, like mashed potatoes or jellies without seeds, but not preserves with bits of peel. Kind of like baby food or food for people without teeth, or things you might eat if you have an upset stomach. Here are some good suggestions from the Mayo Clinic. Here's another sample menu. Make sure that rolls/buns as per the second link don't have any seeds. You might also have good luck googling Crohn's menus.

Response by poster: Sorry to threadsit, but what about something like olive oil? Nothing I've read mentions oils/fats. Pasta tossed in olive oil sounds great to me.

Thanks for the responses, by the way.

Best answer: This set of instructions might provide you with more specific ideas. It lists fats as being perfectly fine.

Response by poster: Thanks all. The links and advice were very helpful. I was clean as a whistle by the day of the scope.
