What is this two-tone woven fabric?

Help feed my obsession!

I bought the last of this fabric that was on the bolt a few days ago n Berkeley and I'm obsessed with it. Unfortunately, I completely forgot to take a photo of the bolt end. In any case, would this be an ikat? It seems like it is but it's so unusual. I'd love to find more if it's out there and my reverse image search didn't turn up anything.

This fabric reminds me of Buffalo Plaid or Buffalo Check. Yours is a bit fancier with a design but the weave is the same with the two tone colors. From a quick scan it seems that buffalo check is taken from Rob Roy tartan.

Best answer: Was that at Stonemountain & Daughters? I'd shoot them an email or send a Facebook message. They are very responsive. They do have a lot of unusual Ikats.

Adding that I would call this weave a plaid. It looks very familiar.

The motifs in the center of the squares definitely look like ikat. The warp threads are tie dyed in bundles and then, when stretched on the loom, there is some shifting which gives the ragged edges. I don't know if that helps with the search.

Gingham. Reminds me of picnic tablecloths.

I would also call it gingham.

It looks like a cheerful dish towel pattern to me. I want one.

After a lot of searching I couldn't find your fabric, but I thought I'd share these two somewhat similar fabrics in case they were of interest to you. I'd second reaching out to the store where you purchased it; they may be able to figure out what it is or where it came from, or help you narrow your search.

Best answer: This looks extremely similar to Indian handloom (hand-woven) fabrics I grew up with.

Not the same, but a similar texture: here ("a classic ikat design").

Response by poster: Thanks for the input everyone. The Toad: I did indeed buy it at Stonemountain and Daughters in Berkeley and finally heard back from them yesterday. They have a connection to a mill in India where this fabric was made and I think it does qualify as an ikat, similar to the one posted by RedOrGreen...thanks for that link by the way. Some yummy fabrics there!

The good news is that Stonemountain is ordering more!
