I need some twitters

My twitter feed has been filling up with politics; I follow one account, they retweet another account, I follow that account - and now it is all politics all the time. I'm looking for active accounts with interesting content on science, history, art, and so on. Instead, I keep finding more politics and famous people who use twitter as a public diary (which I don't want). Do you have any favorites?

Best answer: Brainpickings links to articles in all of your categories. I also really like quotes for writers, though it is not as directly connected.

I have been really enjoying Saskia Freeke's art lately. Her animations are always gorgeous and mesmerizing.

Novelist Rabih Alameddine tweets artistic images, writings and short clips several times a day. I just love his twitter feed.

Best answer: #twitterstorians will net you many historians. And if it's your thing #medievaltwitter is a delight.

Some historians and archaeologists I follow (skewed British): @pethistories @vicsdustbin @nuclearanthro @slevelt @medievalg @mrtimdunn @holland_tom @brennawalks @davidolusoga @indyfromspace @greg_jenner

Sorry for the lack of links!

I find that following historical societies that covers areas I am interested in has been useful. Additionally interesting is the idea of Twitter Lists. That is someone curates a list of people or accounts that all have a thing in common and you can follow a list and not have to hunt and peck through adding 20 accounts. So some examples of all of those.

- I live in Vermont and local history is good for me so I follow VT State Archives, their stuff is interesting. They post one or two interesting things a day.
- I can then look at what lists they're on (not sure what button to press but the URL structure is here: https://twitter.com/VTStateArchives/memberships?lang=en) and find a VT Libraries and History list. I can subscribe to this entire list by clicking the button in the upper left.
- Repeat. Often groups follow and list each other in clusters. So you could start with the US National Archives, find out what list they are on, and wind up following this list of Museums.

Best answer: I went so far as to set up a completely different twitter account in an attempt to break with politics twitter for a spell (only a partial success, since it seems that EVERYONE is tweeting polical stuff these days). I recommend @aldaily.
