Trying to find two books/stories I read as a kid

One was I believe a short story about a boy who had a remote-control that froze time...

. The more he used it, however, the longer time got stuck (maybe?) and eventually he ended up frozen in a wax-museum like place posed as a baseball player.

The other was a stand alone short book I think. The basic plot was a boy who gets a demonic ring from some weird magic shop. He turns it to make himself more powerful or something. There's a rhyme involved that ends w the line "turns it thrice, none have dared!" or something to that effect.

Best answer: I don't know about the first one, but the second is The Monster's Ring by Bruce Coville.

I think the short story might be called "Spaghetti Pig-Out" by Paul Jennings, from the collection Uncanny.
