Mystery icon appeared in my menu bar. What is it?

Yesterday I opened up my laptop to discover it had crashed. When I rebooted, a new mystery icon was in the menu bar. Looks like a little square speech bubble with another square in the middle.

If I click on it, nothing happens - no dropdown. If I roll over it, the tooltip just says "Connecting ..." I can command-click to get an "Exit" command but it comes back when I reboot. It's not listed in my login items. Any ideas? I'm running Mac 10.9.5 (Mavericks - work won't let me upgrade).

It looks to me like the icon for PaperCut? Could you possibly have had that installed once?

It's PaperCut! Although why it would suddenly start popping up now is a mystery.
Thanks Mchelly!
