Mystery icon appeared in my menu bar. What is it?

Yesterday I opened up my laptop to discover it had crashed. When I rebooted, a new mystery icon was in the menu bar. Looks like a little square speech bubble with another square in the middle.

If I click on it, nothing happens - no dropdown. If I roll over it, the tooltip just says "Connecting ..." I can command-click to get an "Exit" command but it comes back when I reboot. It's not listed in my login items. Any ideas? I'm running Mac 10.9.5 (Mavericks - work won't let me upgrade).

Best answer: It looks to me like the icon for PaperCut? Could you possibly have had that installed once?

Response by poster: It's PaperCut! Although why it would suddenly start popping up now is a mystery.
Thanks Mchelly!
