IdentifyThisSongFilter: girl vocalist, droning guitars... what the hell is it?
I hear this song in the gym everyday, and since it's satellite radio they never say the artist...
It's a girl vocalist, singing over sort of slow, droning guitars. It sounds something like Evanesence, or something like that, but I'm not really familiar with them at all so I don't know. The chorus is something like "Set me free-e-ee..." or "Let me beee-ee-eee" or something like that.
Sorry for the vague description, but you guys have identified more obscure songs on less info, and I'm pretty sure this is probably pop.
This is driving me crazy and google is no help. Thanks in advance.

Crap--hit post too soon. My guess for the song would have been "Teen Angst", track 8, but a lot of songs on the album sound like that.
Aside from the lyrics, you've also perfectly described about 60% of the work of My Bloody Valentine.

Michelle Branch does a song called "Set Me Free". I don't know what you mean by 'droning guitars' though.

Kylie Minogue's "Can't get you out of my head"?
It's got the lyrics, but not droning guitar per se...
No, I didn't think so, but thought I should ask.

Are they playing it over speakers at the gym? If so, when it's playing, ask whoever controls the radio what it is. Satellite radio sends out the artist and song name in text as the song plays.

Not a female vocalist, but I have the song "The Great Divide" by Scott Stapp, the ex-vocalist of Creed, stuck in my head right now, and it fits your lyrical specifications:
"You set me free!
To live my life
You became my reason to survive the great divide
You set me Free!"
[Source]
Perhaps you mistakened the similiarities to Creed's music for vocal femininity? ;)

Well, the most obvious song would be "Prime Audio Soup" by Meat Beat Manifesto. I mean, these are the lyrics:
Set me free [3x]
Free [2x]
Set me free [3x]
Free [2x]
And that could sound kinda feminine, but it's much more obviously a dance/industrial track. Originally from 1998, it was on the 1999 Matrix soundtrack and became a kind of perennial, perhaps on a satellite station geared toward people exercising that gets played at gyms. I can also see this being described as "like Evanescence". Listen here. Still, it's more drums than guitars.

Response by poster: Nothing yet... I guess I could try and clarify a bit.
It's definitely a female vocalist, and it is a metal song: heavy guitars, power chords, but sounds more like a ballad, I guess. The singer really carries the end of the "be" or "free" or whatever it is.
I wish I could be a bit more specific. The song has sort of a rising action to the chorus, which comes in punctuated her words that I described earlier.
I already did ask in the gym, actually, and I guess the guy who I asked had no idea how to check it since the radio is kept in the administrator's office who isn't there when I work out. Maybe I just need to ask someone more competent.
Thanks so far though everyone

It could be Mazzy Star, not sure what song it would be though.
Or maybe, K's Choice: Everything For Free.

On further thought: perhaps Bleed Like Me, by Garbage?
Sample:
JT gets all fucked up in some karaoke bar
After two drinks he's a loser
After three drinks he's a star
Getting all nostalgic as he sings "I will survive"
Hey baby can you bleed like me?
C'mon baby can you bleed like me
Hey baby can you bleed like me?
C'mon baby can you bleed like me
You should see my scars [4x]
Try to comprehend that which you'll never comprehend [4x]
You should see my scars [2x]

When I first read this question, I thought of a song off the Gran Turismo 4 soundtrack, I just looked it up now... is it "Break Down" by Daiki Kasho?

Response by poster: I doubt anyone is checking this thread anymore, but I found the song and figured I'd let everyone know.
It's called "Heaven's a Lie" by Lacuna Coil. I found it by searching for Evanescence lyrics similar to what I wanted. When I found nothing I looked on Wikipedia for similar artists with female lead singers and an industrial/gothic/rock type of band. Then I googled their band names plus the lyrics and eventually found this. Ugh.
