Another geeky field recording question! I live in L.A. and would like to spend Memorial Day weekend in a "primitive camping" situation, surrounded by noisy nocturnal wildlife, to make long-form field recordings (6-10 hours). Birds and beasts are a particular interest. I'd like as little human company and contact as possible. Where would you go within, say, a six-hour drive?

Response by poster: (Also, I realize that being TRULY alone on a major holiday weekend is going to be a fool's errand. So let's just assume I want someplace with hike-in camping where no RVs are allowed, for starters.)

Best answer: (1) the sespe wildness near ojai allows back country camping. (2) take the charter boat to Channel Islands national park and sleep in the hike in camping on Santa Cruz island. (3) Anza Borrega!!
