How to make a bare room more friendly?

We have a new "conference room" for our department that is a little too much like an interrogation room. We'd like to make it better, and I'm looking for ideas.

We have already decided that we are going to turn off the flourescent lights and get floor lamps, because the lighting is probably 75% of the problem. We want stuff to put on the walls, and our business is internet related. I found this poster and that's sort of the theme we want to go for -- relevant to the business but not dorky. Also, we want to stay away from inspriational/motivational posters as well as the ones that are faux motivational (ie, "Failure . . .Blah blah blah"). We are not devoid of a sense of humor but we are in a mentoring role for some other employees, so we need to be upbeat and fun, not dorky or snarky. Thanks.

Some of these prints are seriously nifty-looking.

Also, if you're considering making the ceiling a little more interesting, you might check out this thread.

Along those lines, I'd also go for full-spectrum bulbs, such as the Reveal line from GE which can be found at most Target-type stores.

If there are no windows, put some mirrors up to bounce the light around, but mount them high enough that people sitting at the table don't have to stare at themselves. Even small decorative mirrors will help.

It's a little bit cheesy, but I have a secret love for the light-wrapped ficus (fakus, actually, because nobody wants to clean up the dead leaves) or topiary. It's just a nice diffuse light. Electric wall sconces are also nice for the same purpose.

Oh, and maybe consider a fish tank if it'll get taken care of.
