Do I need a heat diffuser for a glass percolator on a glass-top stove?

I lost the metal trivet that came with my glass percolator and can't find one locally. Do I need to use one with a glass-top stove, or does the glass surface effectively diffuse the heat? Thanks.

Best answer: Assuming it is Pyrex, yes, you need a heat diffuser. You can make one by bending a piece of coat hanger wire into a loop or spiral until you find something better. If it's a Chemex, they say you can put it right on the stove.
