Looking for a helpful hairdresser in London

I'm going to be in London this weekend and am looking for a men's hairdresser/barber. I'm from the UK but right now I live abroad, and between a lack of a common language and me not knowing what I want, I rarely get a haircut I'm pleased with. What I would really like is for someone to tell me what would look good on me, then make my hair be that (like all those style/makeover shows). Does anyone have any recommendations in central London?

As a bonus it would be great if the end result was something that is easy to maintain without too much complicated explanation to future, less-talented barbers, or that I could explain through hand gestures and poor French.

Thanks for your help! :)

Response by poster: Just realised I forgot to mention some potentially relevant info. I am white European, male, late twenties.

I go to Lucy at The Lounge Soho. She is a chatty, creative type and I think she would be able to do something spectacular.

Depends on what you want to pay really. I had very consistent results from Murdock London. It was expensive (£45 I think) BUT on dealing with Alex I always had a great cut and was advised as to what would work for me.

Highly recommend Right Kutz on Hay Street, Walthamstow (near to Walthamstow station). £9 for a quality cut that lives up to their motto of "keeping it short and neat".

You cannot go wrong with Champs Barbers.

It's easily the best barbers in Central London. The owner, Ian, is a true gent. As well as running a great shop he does things like cutting street kids' hair in Colombia.

It is the best £20 you can spend on your hair.

Reading this back it sounds like I'm on the payroll but I'm just a very happy customer.
