Name my cat

I just picked up a cat from the humane society. She's 11 years old, chatty, and loves just chilling in my lap or lying next to me. Here she is the day after I brought her home, still looking a bit suspicious. Here she is watching birds on YouTube. And here she is doing what she does best. So what do I call her?

I think she's a Jennyanydots, like the character in the musical Cats.

My first thought when I saw her: "Hello, Clementine!"

I had a tortishell cat once that I nicknamed Sweet Potato. Depending on how you feel about goofy names, I think your new puss looks like a Sweet Potato.

Other ideas: Crouton, Crumpet, Toast, Sepia, Mica.

I saw her and just kept saying 'hello Sweetie' so that's my gut response.

Aren't older rescue cats grand!

Lolly. (Because then you can make up words to go with that old "Schoolhouse Rock" song: "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly, get your cat food here/Quickly, quickly, quickly, make it disappear.")

Yay for both of you!

The first name that popped into my head when looking at that sweet face was Miss Millie.
Congrats on your new family member-- and good for you for adopting an older rescue kitty!

I come, Greymalkin!
Paddock calls - anon!
Fair is foul and foul is fair
Hover through the fog and filthy air!

I'd name her Hurlyburly after the three witches in Macbeth but both of the bolded names above are the names of familiars.

I have a black cat named Milly (short for 'familiar') and she will turn 20 this Nov 14 -- it is a good name for old lady cats that mostly like to chill out with you -- for the longest time.

I vote Isabella Bella Bea.

You know you are honor bound to tell us all what you decided on when you decide, right?
I recently got a rescue cat and I let my inner 12-year-old go wild and her name is: Petunia Daffodil Blueberry Rose Xena Warrior Princess Buttercup. Don't limit yourself, long names are very freeing!

Did she not come with a name? I would have thought a kitty of that age and friendliness had a home and name previously; in which case, I would probably stick with that so that she is hearing a familiar sound. And then, of course, I would come up with about a million nicknames and variations of her original name. :)

Snyps.(say: snips)

The first rescue cat we caught in a trap (six years ago), a torty similar to your sweet kitty, is a bonafide lapcat and qualified purr machine. We are in a place where unadoptable feral cats can be released. They make a decent living along a small creek near our house. "Snyps" decided to stay with us instead of returning to the wild. We named her after the org that helped us get feral cats to a vet for neutering and shots: Spay Nueter Your Pets.

Sammi, Georgie, Bubba, Porgie, and That Little Bastard all had to earn their names the hard way.

Response by poster: OK I like the idea of a Halloween-theme named since I got her a few days before Oct. 31. I think I'll call her Millie, or Mills, which is short for "Familiar." I like the 'familiar' idea because Millie and I are now a team.
