Tablet/laptop recommends - 10 yr old, needs to use Google Classroom.

I have a hard time figuring out which devices will do what we need, so some help would be muchly appreciated. More inside.
My daughter's 4th grade class is using Google classroom to perform work/turn in assignments etc.. and I was excited when I got a big kid bike at that age....
She is a bit absent minded, and somewhat rambunctious, so I need something durable that doesn't cost a great deal in case she loses it/another child takes it/it gets broken.
It would be nice if she could watch videos on it with some parental control.
She would like an onscreen keyboard (she thinks) - though the Chromebooks look affordable and up to the task.
I see a Nexus 10.1, but it looks like a playback only device. The Nexus 9 is a bit more money than I want to gamble.

Not just a chromebook, but a refurbished chromebook you lay out the least amount of money on. I'd watch this feed for a few days and wait for another deal like this or this.
Aim to spend less than like, $140. If it gets broken or something, then no hard feelings, just buy another one since you paid half the price or less of new. Hell, maybe get two right now and keep one as a spare machine for both of you.
My parents got me a $$$ laptop when i was about that age and it was so stressful for me and for them. A couple years later around when i was starting high school age, i got a free one preowned that needed a couple minor repairs and a new battery. It wasn't as nice, but i could do ANYTHING with it without feeling too bad or worrying "what if i take it on that cabin trip and someone spills soda on it?" or whatever. I mean, it would have sucked, but it eliminated 90% of the stress of getting the OMG U R SO IRRESPONSIBLE I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU from mom and dad.
I'd prioritize absolute price with basic functionality over frills here, is what i'm saying.

On further searching, this is what you want. Current model with the latest wireless standard and more ram than some of them. It's also a reinforced school/education model designed to get smacked around!

+1 Chromebook, and in particular emptythought's link is a great model. Why on earth does she want an onscreen keyboard?

Ask her teacher or the school technology department for a recommendation. If they don't have one, it does seem that many schools are using Chromebook.
