Home Health Aide in Dominican Republic.

I'm looking for reliable, trustworthy home health services in the Dominican Republic and I'm having ZERO luck.

My father-in-law is down in Santo Domingo long term and is having some significant difficulties. He is an elderly stroke survivor (10 yrs ago) and while he has mobility issues, he is able to walk with a walker and (mostly) get around by himself. Very recently he has been having some more intense medical issues (incontinence) which led his caretaker to abruptly quit. He has no cognitive difficulties at this time.

Because we don't live down there and are currently unable to go down to the Dominican Republic, we are having difficulty finding care for him. While we DO have some extended in-laws living near to him, we have already leaned on them as much as we feel comfortable doing at this point. Add to that that I do not speak Spanish and the culture down there frowns upon outside carers and, well, here I am.

I have emailed the two nursing homes in Santo Domingo that I found online and I am waiting for a response. I have considered posting the position on D.R. Craigslist, but I'm afraid I won't get a trustworthy, vetted and qualified individual. Do any of you have experience finding elder care in the Dominican Republic? Do you have any suggestions about how I can find reliable and trustworthy in-home care?

Thank you!

This doesn't directly answer your question and it's a bit of a long shot, but maybe a Dominican consulate could help? They might be able to provide you with some pointers on who/what to contact for further leads. There's a Consulate General in Miami and the link has a couple of email addresses, plus links to the other consulates in the US.
