What should I send in a care package for my Spanish friend?

A good friend of mine lives in the Dominican Republic (but is from Spain) and I want to send her a care package. I want to know what fun things I can send her that she can't get there. Things she might miss from the US (where she has lived as well) or Spain. Foods, gifts, etc. Any ideas welcome!

jamon iberico. mmmmm. that's what i miss. i think it's illegal to send meat though so i'd label it something else on the package. you can get the prepackaged ones that are sealed airtight.

If you're able, maybe some Spanish saffron?

Seconding jamon. Nice olive oil for dipping bread into is always a winner...also turron! I really want some turron now...

Some really good Spanish chorizo, like chorizo iberico if you can find it. She can probably only get Mexican-style chorizo where she lives. (And there are laws about sending meat through the mail, but I think it's dependant on the country, so maybe look it up?)

If you don't want to send meat illegally, there's always really good spanish cheese (vacuume-packed, of course). Manchego is fairly easy to find, but you could bend over backwards and make her year by sending queso tetilla and membrillo. Depends what you can get your hands on.

Your profile doesn't say where you are from, but my mom uses this website to order spanish food in the US.

Response by poster: thanks for the answers so far! To clarify, I'm in the US. Also, she did live in the US for many years, and it's easier for me to get stuff here, so any items from the US are welcome too. Thanks!

Best answer: Not knowing what she likes, and thinking about what I like to buy when I go to the US (I'm in Mexico), I would say maybe send her some anerican toilettries. Anything from moisturizer, to nice soap (or maybe Dr Bronner's), a few shades of lipstick (I like the Revlon brand for cheap ones and Clinique for a higher quality and still not so expensive).

I also love to go to Whole Foods and buy little novelty items I wouldn't normaly find at home. Not sute what that would be for her, but I'm sure you could walk around and think of something.
