Where art thou

After a few years, I’ve started to get back into drawing, and I miss having artist friends to collaborate with! Where can I find them?

I did art in high school, and I had artist friends whom I had met online through oekakis and deviantArt (the usual teen haunts at the time). We drifted apart, and I chose to do engineering in college (I’m still in college). So, most of my friends now don’t draw.

I’ve picked up drawing again, and I really miss a couple of things in my relationships:
  • collaboration: we used to collab on pieces where one person would do the lineart and the other colors, and vice versa. Working side-by-side was fun too. Drawing by myself now is still fun, but lonelier.
  • critiques and competition: we pushed each other a lot to improve.
  • fandom: creating fanart together instead of just consuming the content.
Where do I find this now? I have a tumblr where I occasionally post art for a particular fandom, but I don't really know how to use tumblr to meet people. Here [self-link] are some of my sketches, but I'm interested in all types of (representational) art.

I’m living in Cambridge, MA this summer. I’ve thought of going to figure drawing or urban sketching meetups here; any recommendations? Suggestions for other IRL/online communities are also welcome, with a preference toward IRL. (I also live in a co-op where there might be other artists. Maybe I should ask around.)

Google says there are many, including Dr Sketchy's and a place that hosts cartoonists' meetup
