It's a Red Letter Day In My Office

Suddenly, in the middle of a print job, the printer stopped printing. And then things got strange. Help?

Our HP Color LaserJet 3600 is our main workhorse printer, and has worked really without issue for some time. Today, during the printing of a "large" mostly black & white project (only 25 pages or so), the printer stopped printing. I tried printing a letter and an envelope, and got blanks.

When I restarted trying to print an envelope, I got a red envelope (with legible black ink). Like, the magenta catridge just decided that everything needed a little pink. So I printed the letter again (sans envelope), and got magenta only, no writing.

I printed a diagnostics page from the printer, and it is here. I don't know what to do, and my brief googling only seemed to turn up the opposite problem.

Can anyone give me a hand?

Does this happen from all computers using the printer or just yours? Have you tried deleting the printer from your computer and re-connecting?

Seems like this guy had the same problem: http://www.mikekrauss.com/115/hp-3600n-constantly-calibrating-fix/

Also, check to see if any packaging strips are still on any of the toner cartridges.

Hope this helps.

We had a similar problem on one of our color printers....though ours started when I replaced the Magenta cartridge with a new one that I suspect was just faulty. I would try that as a first fix because replacing ours (first with the old one which had a little toner left, and then later with a new, new one) fixed the problem.

Response by poster: Thanks for everyone's help.

To answer questions: it was happening from all computers, and I did uninsstall and reinstall the printer.

I replaced all but the Black cartridge (because we don't have a replacement available, and I'm not sure I want to drop $60 to maybe fix something, rather than spend $200 to buy a brand new printer), and the printer isn't printing all red anymore, but now its printing nothing.

I may get a new Black cartridge, or we may order a new printer. Thanks for your input. If you have different ideas, I'd love to hear it.
