URGENT: AHH! I need to a place to stay? San Fran edition

Came into San Francisco for Dreamforce (massive conference) and taking a few personal days to explore. San Fran hotels are packed with convention attendees.. where can I stay?
I wasn't thinking and thought I could wing it but I am at the convention Mon and Tues and planning to take Wed, Thurs and Fri for personal travel but I did not book any rooms for those nights (flying out Sat). I'm contemplating leaving the city for Wed and Thurs and then staying near the airport Fri. Where do you suggest I stay?
Wed - we wanted to see Port of San Francisco building and taking the BART somewhere (I am being very loose and spontaneous on this trip and now I'm praying it won't bite me in the ass). Where should we head to? All suggestions are welcome

The Marriott Courtyard in Larkspur is walking distance from that end of the Larkspur ferry. Haven't stayed there in 20 years, but...

I haven't been to the Courtyard by Mariott in Larkspur for a long time but I imagine it's probably fine still. The ferry is actually a lovely way to commute, but it does limit your time going out, as the last ferry leaves SF at 9:35 pm.
I don't have any specific suggestions but you might also have luck staying somewhere in Oakland or Daly City on the BART line.

For sights, Stu Dudley's recommendations on Fodor's website are well regarded.
VRBO may have something for you. Search for the places a bit more out of the way yet in San Francisco, such as Noe Valley, Glen Park, etc. You want easy access to BART or MUNI, to get downtown.
Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, the farmer's market at the Ferry Building gives you even more choices of food and beverages.

Where I work, when the usual hotels we use in Oakland are full, we stash people out in the suburbs. Walnut Creek and Pleasant Hill BART stations are surrounded with hotels, and are about 20 mins on the train from downtown SF

Bear in mind that if you stay in East Bay within easy range of a BART station, downtown SF can be as close as 10 mins away. This fact up a much wider net of options (including AirBnB options).
E.g. I just returned from a stay at Waterfront Hotel at Jack London Square in Oakland (steep discount via HotelTonight app...I think I paid $140). Quick walk (or cab or bus) to BART, then you're right in the city. Meanwhile, Jack London Square's pretty fun, too, and nice relaxing harborside pool, etc.
Speaking of HotelTonight, get the app for sure if you haven't already. Best prices are same-day, but you can also now book in advance.

I recommend this place highly. It's on Pacific, between Van Ness and Polk. Walk down to Polk and Union to catch the 45 Muni to Moscone.
Verify that it's the Nob Hill Motor Inn, and not the shitty 'sister' property.
I have stayed here for decades, it's family owned and while just a hair funky, it's always been comfortable and quiet.
