Will my tree be okay?

I planted a Red Maple last week, and just noticed this brown spot on the trunk.

It's about 2.5 inches long, there are a few holes in it, and I can't tell how deep they go. It gives a little when I press on it, and I noticed some ants crawling around it.

The trunk is only 1.5 inches wide. Here's the full tree.

What is it? Is there anything I can do? Thanks!

You might find this helpful. Personally, I would contact an arborist.

Before contacting an arborist, I'd be inclined to talk it over with the nursery you bought it from. Soft and occupied by ants certainly isn't good.

It looks like a type of canker to me. I'd guess that the ants are maybe looking for the sap that's leaking out.
