Mix CD, Christmas edition. Now with special snowflakes!

I need to make a mix CD. This person has always wanted a mix cd, and I finally feel like I can tackle the challenge of making one they'd appreciate with my complete lack of musical appreciation.

I have four themes of songs that I want to include on this. Longer explanation will follow so you can ignore it if you so choose.

*I'm proud of you.
*I will always be here for you.
*You've changed my life.
*I want to get back together/second chance. (this one is least important)

Any of those, or similar. Any genre, because I want songs she doesn't know. You can include the theme if you want, or let me figure it out on my own. Just title and artist is all I ask from you.

Longer backstory is this is the girl I was dating and looked at engagement rings with. We broke up a few months ago, and are taking a long breather before we decide if we can date again. Regardless if we do or not, I love her and I think she's an amazing person that I always want to have in my life. I want this cd to convey my love, my pride, and how much she's helped me grow as a person. I just don't know any music and asking you guys is gonna be easier than googling.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Noisettes--Never Forget You is a good match.

Eva Cassidy's rendition of Fields of Gold.

Rihanna -- Farewell has the theme of "I know you have to go because it is what is best for you, but I don't have to like it." May be a bit too final for you, though? There isn't much of a sense of reconnection in there.

Possibly also the Kooks' Always Where I Need to Be.

"The Longest Time" sung by Billy Joel. First verse:

If you said goodbye to me tonight
There would still be music left to write
What else can I do?
I'm so inspired by you.
This hasn't happened in the longest time.

But check it out on YouTube - it's upbeat, and it shows how he appreciates her.

I'm a big fan of Crowded House for these kinds of crazy mixed-up situations. Distant Sun was the first thing that sprang to mind but they do a good line generally. Heavy on metaphors though.

Possibly Maybe by Bjork.

I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You by Colin Hay. Despite what you might think from the title, they're not together but it's a song about the lasting effect someone can have on your life even when you're not together anymore.

Rome Wasn't Built In A Day by Morcheeba - incredibly catchy and upbeat and expresses some of the anxiety and nervousness.

Magic Position by Patrick Wolf. Also very catchy and upbeat - not clear if the people are in a relationship or not, but probably. So it's more of a 'you changed my life' song.

But I should say I think making a mix CD is partly about you - they're songs that are meaningful to you, that express something that you're trying to say. So if you don't like the songs, I wouldn't put them on a mix CD.

Good luck!
