Where in the US is like Barcelona?

Last year I spent some time in the Eixample district of Barcelona. We really liked the scale, the feel, the streets there. Are there places in the United States like that?

I'm well familiar with the differences in visiting a place on vacation, and living in a vacation spot.

Parts of downtown San Antonio around the cathedral and historic buildings (if you can ignore the touristy spots).

Center City Philadelphia, especially around Rittenhouse Square and the Gayborhood/Washington Square area have a similar feel--mid-rise with lots of street life in the evenings.

There's an area in SE Portland OR like that known as "Ladd's Addition".
