Help my computer take me beyond the blue start-up screen

I have a HP Elitebook 8530p and recently after I have logged on it just sits there with a blue, slightly floral but otherwise blank screen and nothing else happens. I am able to start in safe mode, which is what I'm in now and I've done a system recovery which worked once, but I don't want to have to do that every single time I start the computer. So what do I try next?
I agree that it's probably a profile issue. But you should also probably run the Drive Self Test from the F10 setup menu / BIOS to make sure your drive isn't failing.

Try creating a new user account (from Safe Mode) and then logging into that.
