Porting number from Sprint to Boost? (without contract being finished)

I need to port my Sprint phone number over to boost. Bills are out of control and I rue ever leaving Boost for a contract phone. I've been with Sprint over a year, but not long enough to finish out two-year contract. Yes--I know I will be on hook for early termination fee. My main worry is that I owe money to Sprint (phone is still on for a few more days). I want porting to go smoothly and I do not want to lose my cell phone number. I can do this tomorrow or later today. Just let me know what I need to do to port number smoothly. Thanks for your help.

I have never dealt with Boost, but the general protocol is that the new provider handles all the porting. Do not tell Sprint that you are leaving, Boost will handle it.

boost is an MVNO for sprint, so it should be a pretty easy process. Call 'em up.

Go to Boost. They will handle it. Sprint will send you a final bill that will include early termination fee.

The other way to do this would be to port the wanted number to Google Voice which can all be done on line without talking to a human. Then go to boost and get a new number. This way no matter where you go, you don't have to keep porting your number, just link whatever number it is to your GV number. The downside to this is that there will likely be a disruption in your service for a few days.

Boost is AWFUL...why on earth would you return? Check out ting.com (another sprint mvno) better prices, better phones (including the galaxy s4, note 2, htc one, etc) and MUCH MUCH better customer service.
AFAIK, you're not going to be able to port your number with an existing balance. But as long as that's done you can port it wherever, whenever. ..congress actually got that right back in the 90s

Another vote for Ting, if you're receptive to it. You can maybe even bring your Sprint phone, which would make the ETF a little easier to swallow.

My first month of Ting service, with my wife and I on the account with two phones and pretty moderate usage, was $42. For two lines of voice, data, and text.
