We are in burgos Spain t walking the camino and are trying to get to altamira near santillana del mar to visit the altamira caves. Any spanish mefites who can give us a hand figuring out the best way to and fro? We are staying in burgos and would like to do this as a daytrip. Many thanks!

Best answer: No direct experience here, but it looks like the Alsa buses are your only chance other than renting a car. Non-radial (as in to/ from Madrid) public transport in Spain is always a pain in the neck. Their schedule is not great for a day trip either.

I believe you cannot see the actual caves without booking well in advance (if at all). But there is a museum and a reputedly very well done copy of the caves at the site. Santillana is also great but surely packed with tourists at this time of year.

And thank you for your camino wishes. One can know the camino only by experience and it is one of the most remarkable experiences of my life.
