Can you identify this WinTrek-esque game?

Can you help me identify a game I played that was like EGA Trek/WinTrek, but was not actually either of those games?

Here's what I remember:

- I would have played this game for the first time somewhere in the mid- to late-nineties.

- I also suspect it ran straight from Windows 3.1, but I can't be sure. I might have launched it from DOS

- Graphically, it was at least on par with WinTrek

- It played in a way that was very similar to EGATrek/WinTrek, but was not identical. I remember playing a bunch of WinTrek knock-offs around that time and liking this game the best because it had planets and distress signals from said planets.

Any help appreciated!

Was it Visual Star Trek (aka vtrek)?

It was not. I think the graphics were a little more advanced than VST.

It wasn't Netrek, was it? I've never played the game but I recall people talking about it around that time and according the Wikipedia, there was a Windows version.

These resources may help you find it through description and screenshots... both link to abandonware, shareware and freeware versions of classic games (Commander Keen, EGA Trek, etc.)

DOS Games Archive: Games are downloadable, may require DOSbox on newer systems.

Free Game Empire: allows you to play old games in a Windows browser (doesn't seem happy through Mac Safari); no finicky emulator needed. Easy for you to try the game quickly and see if it was what you were thinking of.

Perhaps it is this one? Star Trek 25th Anniversary (screenshot below), released late 90s
