Where to stay inexpensively in Barcelona and surrounds

I need to figure out lodging in Barcelona for one Saturday night, and then two weeks later I am interested in rock climbing in the region and would like to know where to stay then.

I am going to a conference in Spain in late July. I need lodging on both ends.

Before the conference, I arrive at Barcelona airport just shy of midnight on Saturday and really just need a safe place to stay for the night; I am taking a bus to the conference leaving from the University of Barcelona the next day. I would prefer my own room, although a hostel with shared facilities otherwise is just fine.

After the conference, I have a few days before my flight back to the US. I am an avid climber (mostly bouldering, although I'm happy to do anything single-pitch), and this area is supposed to have great climbing. I can rent a car for those few days if sites would be otherwise inaccessible. I haven't made any plans about where to stay, and I think my options for people to climb with might also be limited. Ideas?

I stayed at the Backpackers BCN Casanova hostel in a shared room last year. It was really clean and quiet, with good lockers and bathrooms. Also very cheap. It was about a 5-10-minutes walk to the nearest airport shuttle stop. Not super close to Las Ramblas etc. but walkable.

I am not a climber but saw people climbing on ropes on my hike around Montserrat. I took the train there from the hostel. No idea about finding people though.

Have fun!

I got a really good deal on air bnb dot com in a pensione for a week in November. I can't remember the actual figure but I recall it cost me about two nights of my accom budget to stay 8 nights. So I was very happy. Air bnb usually puts you in someone's spare room but it varies.
